Welcome to the Dartmouth Kennel Club
Originally known as Shearwater Kennel Club, renamed in 1961 Shearwater Kennel Club of Dartmouth.
The DARTMOUTH KENNEL CLUB became known as it is today on January 1, 1968. The Clubs was incorporated under the Society's Act of Nova Scotia in April 1988. Over the years DKC has offered Obedience Training, Handling Classes, Ring Stewarding Seminars, Sanction Matches, Fun Matches, All Breed Championship dog shows and Licensed Obedience Trials. DKC has also had a booth for the past few years at the Doggy Expo in Dartmouth to help educate the public on how to find responsible purebred dog breeders and the importance of asking the right questions before purchasing a dog.
The obejectives of the Dartmouth Kennel Club are to encourage and develop purebred dogs by educating members and the public at large of the benefits of purebred dogs, holding dog shows and obedience trials for competition/public interest, adn working in co-operations with the Canadian Kennel Club.
Service to the Community
In addition to having booths at various public dog events to promote responsible pet ownership and to educate the public on the importance of buying from responsible breeders, we have also given back with donations to many dog related causes/organizations.
The members of the Dartmouth Kennel Club beleive in giving back! Over the years our club has made financial donations to the following organizations:
Local NS SPCA
Atlantic Veterinary College
Funds to support the purchase of police dog vests for our Halifax Police K-9 Unit
Ontario Veterinary College
Guide Dogs for the Blind
Cole Harbour Place
Funds to support the purchase of live dog traps/trail cameras to help assist local people in finding their lost pets in the community
Junior Handling in Nova Scotia (To support youth involved in dog shows/obedience trials)
To date our club has donated in excess of $100,000 to organizations/causes like the above noted as well as others.
